Small Deer Food Plot Video: No ATV No Equipment No Problem

I often get requests by weekend warriors trying to get some deer food plots going on leased hunting land.  Food plots in this type of situation are difficult at best because of timing of seeding, maintenance, weed control  etc.  If you are looking to do a simple hunting plot watch these two videos.

A couple of things I would add are:

1. This technique works great for low till or no till seeds (ie those only requiring a 1/4 to 1/2 inch depth for seeding such as brassicas & late season annual legumes (clovers).

2. If native grass competition is severe, then don’t use nitrogen in the fertilizer.

3. Not disrupting the soil is a good plan for this type of plot, because it would only stimulate weed growth.

4. This type of plotting is harvest plotting. Not to be confused with feeding plots. This is too attract and harvest deer, not provide nutritional management and habitat support.

5. There is a fine line between baiting and plotting. Check you local legislation before you go ahead with this style of plotting.

The previous post I talked about a small tiller the mantis: this plot would be too small to really consider that tool to be necessary or feasible. The mantis would be used in a larger 0.5 to 1 acre plot when you don’t have atv attachments.
